Akdolit® SL (milk of lime) is a liquid reagent resulting from the extinction of quicklime (CaO) or the dilution of hydrated lime (Ca(OH)2) in water. The preparation of a pure and homogeneous milk of lime on the water treatment site is a difficult process which requires specific equipment and know-how. That is why Akdolit® also offers a range of ready-to-use milk of lime to its customers.
In water treatment, milk of lime is used to neutralise water acidity, by increasing the pH, and to correct water hardness, by bringing it to the calco-carbonic equilibrium (softening or hardening). Milk of lime can also reduce the metal concentration in water by precipitation of metal hydroxides due to the increase of pH.
Lhoist's range of Akdolit® SL reagents meet the EN 12 518 standard for the treatment of water destined for human consumption. Moreover, they correspond to Class 1, having the highest concentration of active reagent, and Type A, containing the smallest amount of impurities.
